Hit-and-run killer gets five years max

STROUDSBURG – The man who admitted running over another man last summer could spend less than two years in prison.  Myles Davis was sentenced to from 21 months to five years in prison for the death of Robert Monaco, 45, of Blakeslee.

Davis, 20, of Long Pond pled guilty to vehicular homicide and tampering with evidence, two of the charges he faced after his arrest a month following the July 3, 2007 incident on Route 115 in Tunkhannock Township.

Monaco was on a motorcycle when he hit a deer.  He was injured, lying in the road, when Davis approached in his car.  Patrons in a bar and pizzeria near the accident scene, who had come to Monaco’s aid, tried to flag down Davis, who instead of stopping, sped up and ran over Monaco.

A tip led police to the suspect vehicle in Scranton.  Davis eventually told police he fled the scene because he was scared.
