Fumes force evacuation at private medical center

COOLBAUGH TOWNSHIP – Strong fumes forced some 100 employees and patients from the Mountain Healthcare Center on Route 611, shortly after 9 Wednesday morning.  It’s not the first time the building has had problems with fumes.

People in the building complained of burning eyes and feeling light-headed.  Some described the smell as similar to burned oil.

Responding fire personnel could not detect anything specific.  The building remained closed for the rest of the day.

A similar but apparently less severe incident caused a brief evacuation Tuesday.  There were two incidents in April.
