Jury acquits man of most charges in child sex case

STROUDSBURG – An Allentown man, accused of raping a 12-year-old girl at a Monroe County motel, was found guilty only of endangering the welfare of a child.  Jeremy Moyer, 24, was found not guilty of other charges, including involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and indecent assault.

Moyer, the girl, her mother and younger siblings, were sharing a Bartonsville room, last year.  The three alleged assaults when the mother left with the other children, leaving the man and the older girl alone, but only for brief periods.

Moyer, testifying in his own defense, denied any attacks.  His attorney focused on a lack of evidence, and the mother’s behavior.

The mother claimed fear kept her from taking the children and leaving, after the first assault.

The jury, which deliberated two hours after a two-day trial, apparently did not believe there was sufficient evidence on the more serious charges.  The guilty verdict for endangering was based on Moyer watching pornography, on a laptop, in view of the girl.
