DWGNRA seeks public comment on curatorial storage facility

BUSHKILL – The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is making available for public review an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the construction of an auxiliary curatorial storage facility to house large historic objects, including wagons and furniture. The objects are currently being stored in various facilities within Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The facilities are inadequate and some are in poor condition, resulting in artifact deterioration and making routine inventory, examination, and preservation of the collection difficult to achieve.

The EA addresses a proposal to construct an approximately 2,000 square-foot, one-story facility within the park, directly behind the current Bushkill Curatorial Storage Facility (formerly the Bushkill School), to provide the storage space. The building will also have appropriate climate controls and security systems and be constructed in a manner to seek Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification through the U.S. Green Building Council.

Public comment on the proposed curatorial storage facility is welcome and encouraged. This Environmental Assessment/Assessment of Effect will be open for public comment for a period of 30-days beginning today. The EA is available on the NPS Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) website at: http://parkplanning.nps.gov/dewa. Hard copies of the document may be viewed at park headquarters.

Comments by mail may be addressed to the Superintendent at the address below or comments may be posted electronically at http://parkplanning.nps.gov.
