STROUDSBURG – Gary Gerber Jr. will spend 10 to 20 years in prison. Gerber, 36, admitted killing Robert Hagan, 45, in Hamilton Township, 15 years ago. He had wanted to withdraw the plea. He was sentenced in Monroe County Court, yesterday, on his guilty plea to third degree murder. He wanted to withdraw the plea, entered earlier this year, but that request was denied by the Judge. The guilty plea came in March, after his original attorney died of natural causes. He was then given a choice of entering a plea or finding a new attorney, in two weeks. He decided to plead guilty. Through his original attorney, Gerber had claimed the August 1993 killing of Hagan, his Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor, was self-defense. |
