“Mini-Woodstock” planned for Matamoras |

Clarification: Organizers of the Deerpark Family Festival say this year's event will take place, contrary to information we were provided by the Tri-State Chamber of Commerce. The festival will run July 10-13, at New Hope Farms in Huguenot, north of Port Jervis. MATAMORAS – A “Family Festival” that has been held for 14 years on the New York side of the Delaware River, may move to Matamoras Airport Park, in somewhat different form. This would have been the third year that the Tri-State Chamber of Commerce in Port Jervis conducted the Deerpark Family Festival, but Chamber President Gary Linton Tuesday announced it has been cancelled. He cited “failed negotiations” with the New Hope Farms and its administration, where it was to have been held in Deerpark. The chamber has, however, teamed up with local promoters, and will sponsor the American Roots Festival at Airport Park in Matamoras, PA, across the Delaware River, over the July 4th holiday weekend. Linton said it will have some big name entertainers reminiscent of Woodstock. They have already signed John Sebastian, Rachel Allen, Leon Redbone and others. There will be multiple stages, fireworks, food and merchandise vendors. Assuming that three day event is a success, Linton said they want to launch the Tri-State Family Festival next year. |
