Summer School changes at DV

WESTFALL TOWNSHIP - The summer school program at Delaware Valley is a bit different this year.  Instead of having work to do at home, students will be required to come to a classroom to work on a computerized program.

Students in grades 9-12 will be working on a program called the Florida Virtual School. There are approximately nine classes to work from and the program will last six weeks.

Progress of students will be monitored by a teacher.

The middle school program will run for 5 weeks and have a concentration in math and reading from a program called Voyager Learning. Elementary level will also use the Voyager Learning program for 5 weeks in math and reading.

The programs have diagnostic assessments at the beginning and assessments at the end of the program to track gains of students.

Diane French, chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee was pleased with the new programs. “They will greatly help with our district goal of improving PSSA scores”, she said.

Board member  John Wroblewski was concerned about students with learning disabilities in the program and was told that a special education teacher would be  working this summer to help those students.
