DWGNRA seeks input on Citizen Advisory Commission

BUSHKILL - Public input and comments being accepted on the reauthorization of the Delaware Water Gap NRA Citizen Advisory Commission Superintendent John J. Donahue announced today that public input and comments on the reauthorization of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area Citizen Advisory Commission (CAC) will be accepted until July 14, 2008.

The CAC was established by Public Law on October 31, 1988, and extended on November 6, 1998. The Commission advises the Secretary of the Interior on matters pertaining to the management and operation of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

Unless its authorization is again extended by the U.S. Congress, the CAC will conclude its function in October.

The CAC conducted a public meeting and forum on June 14, to seek public input and comment on its reauthorization. Statements were provided in person and by letter by more than 20 individuals.

The CAC passed a motion to continue to accept additional input for 30 days.

The CAC is composed of 11 members appointed by the Secretary of the Interior and includes two residents of New Jersey nominated by the Governor of New Jersey, two resident of Pennsylvania nominated by the Governor of Pennsylvania, two members nominated by the Superintendent of Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, five county members nominated by the county administrations (one each from Sussex County, Warren County, Pike County, Monroe County, and Northampton County). The CAC holds regular public meeting, alternating between the five counties surrounding the recreation area in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The public is invited to bring issues of concern to the meetings for discussion with CAC members and park staff.
