Chestnuthill gets state recycling grant

HARRISBURG – Chestnuthill Township, in Monroe County, has been awarded a $22,707 grant under the state Department of Environmental Protection's Recycling Performance Grant Program.

State Rep. John Siptroth, D-Monroe/Pike, said the grant amount is based on the 1,411 tons of material the township recycled in 2007 and the city's population. This grant is in addition to other funds that DEP allocates to municipalities to establish and maintain recycling programs.

Recycling performance grants are awarded by DEP to provide incentive to help communities increase the amount of materials recovered through recycling and promote economic growth in Pennsylvania communities and recycling-related market expansion.

More information on the state's Recycling Performance Grant Program is available online at www.depweb.state.pa.us.
