Indian casino a step closer to reality in New York’s Catskills

MONTICELLO NY – Officials of the Seneca Nation signed a mitigation agreement with Sullivan County officials.  The agreement is a major initial step toward a Class III gaming facility, outside Monticello, about 25 miles from the Pennsylvania border.

Seneca Nation President Barry Snyder said a lot need to be done before they can actually start building, including getting clearances from the state and federal governments, but he is confident that will take “months, not years”.

Snyder is also confident that the kind of casino they are looking at building can compete with anything operating in Pennsylvania, which has clearly been drawing gamblers from New York.
