Mother charged in overdose death of son

SMITHFIELD TWP – A mother who did not call an ambulance after her 13-year-old son several pain killers, is now charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Ginger Boyle, 39, of Stroudsburg, was arraigned on the felony count, and charges of endangering the welfare of a child.  She is free on $100,000 unsecured bond.

Police say they were called to the home in Smithfield Township late last April 1, after the juvenile was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor.  He was taken to Pocono Medical center where he was declared dead a short time later.

An autopsy showed he had high levels of two narcotic pain relievers, methadone and hydromorphone, in his system.

The woman initially told police she became aware some of her pills were missing, but that she did not call authorities, earlier in the day, because “he seemed fine”.
