Traffic stop leads to firearms arrest

LONG POND – Pocono Mountain Regional Police made a routine traffic stop Tuesday afternoon led to weapons charges against the driver.

Police Michael Belanger, 20, of Long Pond, tried to grab a rifle located between the driver and passenger seat.  After a brief struggle, police were able to extract the suspect and arrest him without further incident.

Because of prior criminal convictions, Belanger is prohibited from possessing firearms.  He is being held on charges of possessing the firearm, resisting arrest, and various traffic violations.
