MILFORD - The Pike County Commissioners proclaimed October Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Linda LaStarza, Executive Director of Safe Haven of Pike County, thanked the commissioners for their continued support of Safe Haven and the agency’s mission. She explained that Safe Haven provided domestic violence and sexual abuse services to over 400 clients. The crisis shelter provided over 1,200 shelter days to victims of domestic abuse. Their 24 hour crisis intervention hotline received over 680 calls last year. Some 68 female inmates of the Pike County Correctional Facility received services from Safe Haven. The Agency facilitated 389 programs in the public school system, which they estimate reached over 3,000 students. The agency’s annual campaign called Paint Pike Purple began Wednesday. There will be purple ribbons and bows displayed throughout Pike County. Many agencies, organizations, houses of worship, businesses and individuals in the county are gathering together during October to support domestic peace in Pike County. The campaign will close on October 30th with the second annual “Day of Dignity” open house. All are invited to stop by the Safe Haven office in Milford to help celebrate efforts toward making Pike County a safer community for everyone. |
