Gonzalez guilty of murder

STROUDSBURG – Miguel Gonzalez, 33, of Pocono Summit, was found guilty on all charges in the fatal shooting, two years ago, of the mother of his children.  It took the jury just two hours to convict Gonzalez, following weeklong trial marked by a bizarre contradiction between the accused and his defense attorney.

Gonzalez took the stand and surprised the court with an unanticipated account of the crime, contending that he returned home, found four men with the victim, Jeanette Claudio.  He claimed the men attacked him and he was shot during the struggle.

The prosecution argued Gonzalez killed Claudio, then shot himself in a futile suicide attempt that left him blind in one eye.  Gonzalez’s defense attorney had prepared his case around that scenario.

Gonzalez could face life in prison.  He will be sentenced in January.
