PEEC hosting ribbon cutting ceremony for new yurt village |
|||||
Lehman Township - Come and join business and community leaders from the Tri-state region for the official grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of the Pocono Environmental Education Center’s new Yurt Village. The ceremony will take place on Thursday 9/27/07 at 6:30 p.m. in PEEC’s lower campus. State Representative John Siptroth (189th Legislative District) will speak at the opening. It was through his leadership and the Lehman Township Supervisors that PEEC obtained the necessary PA State Redevelopment Capital Assistance Program Grant funds to construct the Yurt Village. For those of you who have never seen a Yurt, they are a cross between a geodesic dome and a luxury safari tent. The circular, canvas-covered Yurts have plywood sub-floors, wood lattice walls, windows, framed door entry and skylight. PEEC’s new village contains 4 Yurts that sleep up to 8 guests in each structure and 4 larger Yurts that sleep up to 12 guests each. Four of the Yurts are also ADA accessible. The Yurts are furnished with bunk beds, heat, electricity and ceiling fans and an ADA accessible shower/bathroom facility is adjacent to the village for our guests. The yurts will be available to groups, families and individuals taking part in PEEC’s programs and workshops. For more information on the grand opening ceremony, contact PEEC at (570) 828-2319 or email peec@ptd.net. PEEC’s mission is to enhance environmental awareness, knowledge and appreciation through hands-on experience in a natural outdoor classroom.
