September 30th is Gold Star Mother’s Day

Harrisburg - Senator Lisa Baker (R-20) recently introduced a resolution designating September 30, 2007 as “Gold Star Mother’s Day” in Pennsylvania.

“With this resolution, we will be offering our deepest respect and gratitude to Pennsylvania’s Gold Star Mothers,” Baker said.

More than 70 years ago, President Franklin Roosevelt recognized Gold Star Mothers for their strength and inspiration following the death of a son or daughter during their military service.

Congress issued a joint resolution on June 23, 1936, establishing the last Sunday in September as Gold Star Mother’s Day and requesting the annual issuance of a presidential proclamation.

Today, numerous chapters of Gold Star Mothers across our nation offer important programs and services to enhance the lives of veterans and provide support for their families. Their civic education programs and help for those in need honor the lives of their sons and daughters and strengthen America.
