Single laning on Milford-Montague Bridge to resume

MILFORD -  The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced that motorists using the Milford-Montague Toll Bridge may again encounter traffic lane shutdowns for extended periods when a summertime lane-closure moratorium comes to an end one week from today, next Monday, September 15. The resumption of single-lane closures with alternating traffic are required to accommodate the reconstruction of the bridge's road deck as part of a rehabilitation project that began earlier this year.

The Commission imposed a summer moratorium on protracted construction-related lane closures at the bridge shortly before Memorial Day. The moratorium was initiated to accommodate vacation travelers and local businesses dependent on the summer tourism season, when traffic on the bridge increases by 50 percent. [The moratorium was extended an additional two weeks after Labor Day to accommodate increased traffic as a result of the planned closure of the Dingmans Ferry Bridge for annual maintenance work]

The Milford-Montague Toll Bridge rehabilitation project is projected to cost $19.1 million. The project is scheduled to reach substantial completion by Memorial Day 2009.
