Pocono drug lord captured in Caribbean

SCRANTON – Leonard Toribio, an alleged cocaine king from East Stroudsburg was arrested in the Dominican Republic.  Toribio, 39, has been on the lam since November 2000.

Toribio and 13 other defendants were indicted by a federal grand jury in April 2000.  The indictment alleged that Toribio headed a ring that distributed large amounts of cocaine throughout Monroe and Carbon counties. 

Toribio was arrested in May, 2000, but was on supervised pre-trial bail.  In September of 2000, he pled guilty to several counts, but remain free on bail. In November, he was arrested by federal authorities in New York, for alleged violation of bail terms. 

In December, 2000, he failed to appear for a court hearing, and remained free until a fugitive unit of the U.S. Marshals Service located him in the Dominican Republic.
