Bridge commission installs unified communications system |

MORRISVILLE, PA- The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced today that it has completed installation of a new state-of-the-art radio system that provides a unified communications system for the agency spanning its entire 140-mile jurisdiction. Until now, the communications system spread among the three districts that make up the Commission's jurisdiction was hindered by technological limitations. The topography and terrain along the Delaware River also hampered transmissions. The Commission's transition to a new frequency will allow seamless communications while enabling Commission personnel to communicate directly with State Police in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and with emergency services personnel along the river. "This new radio system will enhance communications among our districts, improve our ability to coordinate with law enforcement and emergency responders, and help us respond more effectively in crisis situations, such as flood events," said Frank G. McCartney, Executive Director of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission. The cost of installing the new radio system was partially offset by the sale of the Commission's old communications frequency to a private telecommunications company. The radio system upgrades are being performed in coordination with the Commission's procurement of an electronic surveillance and detection system to enhance security and upgrade communications at the agency's bridges and facilities.
