Hit-and-run death driver sentenced to prison

STROUDSBURG – The man who killed a driver who was checking out a problem with his rig, on Interstate 80, a year ago, was sentenced to a prison term of almost three years to up to seven years.  The sentence, for Sean Murray, is the maximum allowed under state guidelines.

Sean Murray, 42, of Jackson Township, was charged with causing an accident involving death and tampering with evidence.

He was also charged with driving a vehicle not equipped with ignition interlock, something repeat DUI offenders are required to have.  The device measures a driver's breath and will prevent the vehicle from starting of alcohol is detected.  Police do not claim Murray had been drinking the night of the accident.

Murray claimed he was aware he struck a tractor trailer while heading west on Interstate 80 near Tannersville, but that he was unaware he had struck and killed the driver, Clyde Pierce, of Texas, who was standing outside his rig.  Police allege that even after learning, through media reports, he had killed someone, he did not turn himself in.
