Still no budget, ten days after ‘deal’ announced

HARRISBURG – Gov. Edward Rendell is playing hardball again, with the state budget, still not in place, after more than 90 days.  The governor wants a budget on his desk by Sunday.

Rendell and legislative leaders proclaimed an agreement, ten days ago, but that was contingent on several hundred component parts of the budget being passed, individually, by the legislature.

There apparently is discontent growing among some lawmakers over revenue devices, added to that agreement, to balance the budget.  While there are no broad-based tax hikes, a lot of new revenues were added, including taxes on cultural events as well as admission to museums.
